The Christian's calling

Being like Jesus should be the supreme objective of all Christians; and it is God's wish for them.

He has called them “out of darkness into his marvellous light”. Jesus is Himself the “light of the world” (John 8:12). He leads whoever believes in Him out of obscurity and doubt. He teaches him to produce the “fruit of the light" which consists “in all goodness and righteousness and truth” (Ephesians 5:9. J.N.D.).

He has called them into the fellowship of the Son of God. We are invited to share the thoughts of our Saviour, His love of God our Father, of the believers who form His church and for all mankind. This fellowship implies that in our conduct we stay apart from evil, “as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct” (1 Peter 1:15). This calling also shows that God wishes to deliver us from any form of bondage, so that we are free for Christ, to worship Him and lovingly and devotedly serve those who belong to Him.

He has called us to eternal glory with Christ. We possess eternal life, not just for living on this earth, but to live eternally in heaven with Jesus. Our life in relationship with God and our Lord will flourish fully when we are with Christ in heaven. “We shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).
