May - 14 - Tuesday

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with
all longsuffering and teaching.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.

2 Timothy 4:2; Matthew 28:19

The signpost

Every week on market day the man was standing at his Bible stall between a baker and a greengrocer. It was a small stall, about three feet wide and displayed some Bibles and New Testaments.

People went past. On reaching the stall some greeted reservedly and smiled, others quickened their step or turned their back on it. One person came up: “Excuse me, but you have been standing here for years in every wind and weather, and I never see you sell a single book.

How's your business going?” – “You can’t expect a signpost to go along well,” replied the evangelist. “It’s purpose is to show you the right direction, isn’t it? And my job here is just that. I show the right way to people who are going the wrong way.”

Do we all know the right direction leading to God, our proper destination? If we turn back from all of our own wrong, self-willed ways and believe in Jesus Christ and His work of redemption, then we shall get to God who forgives our sins and receives us as His children.

And if in this way we are led to God through Christ, we, too, can be suitable signposts in our own district.

“Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3, 18).
